Vocablet of the Day: Emanate

Today’s Vocablet showcases an odd sort of organism with glow-in-the-dark properties.

The emanate (Glowing Mushroom) Vocablet is about a special type of fungi that, after dark, gives off a faint green light called “foxfire” or “fairy fire.”  The purpose of the light is unknown, though some scientists think it may be to attract insects to help spread spores, the same reason that some flowers are brightly colored.

One species of bioluminescent mushroom that hasn’t been seen since 1840 was recently discovered in Brazil.  The light emanating from this type of mushroom is so bright you can read a book by it!
