Language Matters: Encouraging English Learning in Malaysia

Malaysia’s State Resource Development and Information Technology Assistant Minister, Jainab Ahmad, has called for schools to implement new methods of increasing English learning and proficiency.

In particular, the state of Sabah, with a smaller number of students who can speak English, needs to boost its English language programs.

Knowing English is vital in today's global economy

Why learn English?  Because knowing the international language of business is “important in the era of globalisation and information communication technology,” Ahmad said.

It’s not just about learning in classrooms, though.  To really master the language, learners need to practice it and expose themselves to it in the real world, through magazines, TV shows, and other places where English is naturally spoken.
