Life is tough for many wild animals, starting from the moment they first set eyes on the world.

Some animals need a lot of help from their parents when they’re babies, like polar bears (or humans!).  Others are on their own from the moment they come out of their egg.

Can you imagine a life with no parents, or any adults at all to help you when you’re young? That’s the way it is for iguanas.  As soon as they hatch, they have to figure out how to survive all by themselves.  Even then, only the strongest manage to live to adulthood.

Most birds take care of their babies after they hatch.  Why do you think there’s a difference?
